Quick answer

For a flat ceiling, pick a downrod that puts the blades 7–8 ft off the floor. 8 ft ceiling = flush-mount (no downrod). 9 ft = 6"–12" downrod. 10 ft = 12"–24". 11–12 ft = 24"–48". Vaulted = add 6" of downrod per foot of slope + an angled ceiling adapter. Standard downrod sizes are 12", 18", 24", 36", 48", 60", and 72".

Example: 12 ft cathedral ceiling with 6/12 pitch = flat 12 ft baseline (24" downrod) + 6 ft of slope × 6" = +36" = total 60" downrod. Plus an angled adapter.
